Phrasal verbs

Before diving into phrasal verbs, at first, let's come to know what exactly they are and what do they mean?

Phrasal verb: 

A main verb with an adverb particle or a preposition within a sentence which has an idiomatic meaning rather than its literal meaning, is called a phrasal verb.

or

A phrase containing a verb that functions as a main verb in a  sentence, is called a phrasal  verb.


E.g:


Catch on (to understand)

Its literal meaning could be as "catch ( trying to hold something in your hands), and 'on' (a particle, in here, functioning as an adverb)"


Around, down, at, off, for,  in, on, over, away, out, round, up, are the most common adverb particles used in the formation of phrasal verbs.

For example:     put up, look around, walk away, get on, get off, etc
